Apple Mountain Ski Patrol Director to serve on the National Ski Patrol Historic Safety Team

The National Ski Patrol (NSP) Lakewood, Colorado, selected Denny McMahan, Patrol Director of the Apple Mountain Ski Patrol to serve on the historic 7- Member NSP Safety Team.

Crystal Mountain announces $10 million expansion

Crystal Mountain is about to embark on a $10 million expansion that will include three new projects: a full-service destination spa, new slope-side residences named the Bungalows at Crystal Glen and Michigan’s only alpine slide.

THOMPSONVILLE, MICH. – Crystal Mountain continues to grow this winter with a substantial increase in snowmaking capacity and the development of a second Trailside Cabins community. Crystal is also introducing a new season pass and a winter family festival for 2007/08.

$10 Million Upgrade Now Underway at Shanty Creek Resorts

Bellaire, Michigan–Construction is now underway at Shanty Creek Resorts’ Summit Village, one of three villages located in the Grand Traverse Region in Bellaire, Michigan. A $10 million renovation and redecoration recently commenced on the hotel’s guestrooms, public areas and function space.

Ski Walking–Not just for the snow deprived ski racers anymore

Ski Walking, also called Nordic Walking, is the fastest growing fitness activity in Europe. Over 760,000 Finns of all ages and all fitness levels are hiking with their poles—that’s 20 percent of Finland’s entire population. Millions are Ski Walking all across Europe, too. Ski Walking is basically walking with special fitness poles—no skis and no snow required.

U.S. National Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame announces Class of 2007

The US National Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame inductees represent a very diverse group of snow sport pioneers, athletes and developers, including the first inductees for snowboarding.  The inductees are:  Jake and Donna Carpenter, Everett Kircher, Eric Bergoust, Doug Lewis, Tom Jacobs and Mitch Cubberly.

COLD IS COOL -- Ski areas encourage kids to get out, have fun, and get healthy with free skiing for fourth graders!
The Michigan Snowsports Industries Association (MSIA) wants to give Michigan kids an opportunity to get out, have fun and get healthy this winter. This is why MSIA has established a state-wide program which provides every fourth grader in Michigan the opportunity to ski for free. Endorsed by Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm and sponsored by the Tri-State Coca-Cola Bottling Company, fourth graders can obtain a "Cold is Cool" Ski & Ride Passport that gives them up to three free lift tickets or trail passes at 19 participating ski areas.

Michigan Slopes Win over Families with Kid-friendly Specials
Michigan ski areas want families to enjoy the sport of skiing and snowboarding, and they do their share to offer kid-friendly programs and discounts. Most ski areas offer reduced lift tickets for children and some even offer free skiing for certain ages. They also provide learn-to-ski programs, daycare and NASTAR racing. "Skiing is a great activity for kids, it gets them outside for fresh air and exercise," says Steve Kershner, Michigan Snowsports Industries Association, (MSIA) chairman and director of skiing for Shanty Creek.

Senior Discounts Abound on Michigan Ski Slopes
Ski areas and resorts recognize senior citizens as a large segment of our population that has leisure time. Therefore many Michigan ski areas reward senior skiers with discounts and special programs. Smart seniors realize the health benefits of skiing to stay physically fit.
